Guilty Plea Entered in Case of Man Found Dead In Koreatown Apartment

A 67-year-old man entered a guilty plea today for the killing of a Koreatown resident found beaten to death in the resident’s apartment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Sabrina Corsa said Roy Lee Adams pleaded to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted to three prior convictions for which he received state prison sentences.

Adams is expected to get a nine-year prison sentence at a hearing scheduled for Aug. 5 in Department 37 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

The body of Cornelius Rich, 62, was found in his apartment approximately 10 days after his death in March 2013. The victim’s body was only discovered because the apartment manager for the building on the 500 block of Kingsley Drive received complaints about the smell coming from the unit, the prosecutor said.

Both men knew each other prior to Rich’s death, the prosecutor added.
