The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has issued a Boil Water Notice for a localized two-block area in Koreatown after routine water quality testing detected the presence of E. coli bacteria.
The advisory affects properties bounded by South Ardmore Avenue to the west, South Mariposa Avenue to the east, West 5th Street to the north, and West 6th Street to the south. Residents and businesses within this zone are urged to take immediate precautions until the notice is lifted.
Safety Precautions in Effect
Until further notice, those within the affected boundaries should use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice, washing dishes, and brushing teeth. To ensure safety, tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allowed to cool before use.
Health officials caution that anyone who accidentally consumes potentially contaminated water should monitor for symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, or nausea, and contact a healthcare provider if symptoms develop or persist.
Investigation Underway
LADWP crews are currently conducting additional testing to identify the source of the bacterial contamination. The department has committed to notifying the public once the water supply in the affected area is confirmed safe for normal use.
For the latest updates, residents can visit the official LADWP News page. Those with questions or concerns can call the department’s 24/7 assistance line at 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397) or use the same number to report water outages.
The LADWP has not provided a timeline for when the advisory may be lifted, stating that it will depend on the results of ongoing testing and any necessary corrective measures.
