Ethnic Breakdown in Koreatown: Latest Figures

Latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey show a total of 56,315 Koreans living in the Greater Koreatown area (zip codes 90004, 90005, 90006, 90010, 90019, 90020, 90036, 90057), representing 14% of the total population.

The zip code in Koreatown proper with the most Koreans is 90020 – with 12,579 Korean residents. The total population for this area is 41,086, meaning Koreans make up 30.6% of the population in that area.

The 90005 area has the second highest number of Koreans with 9,636. The 90006 area ranks third with 8,396.

The highest Korean population density is in the 90010 area along Wilshire Boulevard, where 2,433 of the 3,835 residents are Koreans.

Koreans seem to be moving to the area east of Koreatown, to downtown Los Angeles, specifically in the area covered by zip codes 90014, 90015, and 90017. The Korean population for those areas jumped to 3,947, an increase of 170% from three years ago.
